Day 2 - Lie
I forgot to take my camera out with me to breakfast and I only had my phone so I took photos on that... for breakfast we went to The Olive, only a short walk from our hotel.
My wallet for the trip... a transparent zip case my mummy bought for me in HK.
So this is what I ate for breakfast (or rather, brunch): a chicken burger with guava jelly. It was like a chicken, brie and cranberry sandwich but instead of cranberry sauce or jam, there was guava jelly and beetroot. It was a rather strange description since it's not often you get guava anything outside of Asia so I ordered it. Omg those chips. I think chips everywhere on Norfolk is amazing.
Oh. My. God. That soap.
After breakfast, we went to town again. And by town, I mean the main street which was like three minutes by foot. And since this was just over the pre-Christmas period, most of the shops weren't open yet. Or maybe it's actually due to island time. Either way, there wasn't much to see. In the end, we just left to pack up for a day at the beach.
It was a beautiful day!
Excuse my poor attempt in getting a selfie with the beautiful backdrop.
So I tried getting some shots.
Look at that clear water!
And that view!
Loved the scenery!
It's hard to believe that it wasn't that long ago convicts jumped into this water in an attempt to escape only to swim into the mouths of sharks! We tried going back to the pier in hopes of seeing some of those sharks but there were none so we ended up searching for a place for dinner. We found one after we got lost and made a reservation. And by finding one, I mean we drove around and found the restaurant then put our names down on the piece of paper stuck to the gate.
Dinner in the woods.
We went to Norfolk Blue which specialises in "Norfolk Blue" beef - their own home grown cattle. Obviously with their boasts, of course I'd order the house special - their Norfolk Blue aged prime cut beef.
Ordered a lemon, lime and bitters.
Couldn't get a good pic without looking weird. Also couldn't really figure out what half of this dish consisted of.
Not the best steak I've ever had and I probably won't be ordering the Norfolk Blue ever again as I prefer my steak to have much more marbling than this one did. I'll pick the Australian prime cuts next time.
We went down again to the pier after dinner to walk off those calories hoping to see some sharks and ghosts. When we got there we found a man just casually filleting some fish he just hauled up. He would cut off the excess and chuck that back into the water to tempt sharks closer. The head, he would attach to a hook which he would use to catch sharks and haul them up for tagging.
So he's tying the line to catch a shark.
Trying to see the sharks...
Do we have a catch?!
Yes?
No...
So he goes back to his fish.
Meanwhile...
Maybe...
Caught one!
Waiting for her to calm down.
But she's too small to tag.
Such a beauty.
Picking her up to throw her back into the sea.
He left after that and we went ghost hunting.
Visited the old gaol. Apparently this small space housed over 8 inmates.
Unfortunately no clear photos could be taken that night, but I heard this was where people got executed...
I think this was a wall in one of the haunted barracks. We didn't see no ghosts though.
So I couldn't for the life of me get up in time for breakfast so my group went off without me hahaha. Instead, I finally got out of bed near noon and got something from the front desk.
The glam life?
They came back soon after and we spent the day lazing around the pool.
Cows are everywhere on this island...
Really... people put up fences to keep them off their property haha...
Norfolk's national language lol
Had the most amazing night ever with this crew. Apparently it's their first time playing together!
Just casually taking a swig.
Listened to them into the dark of the night before ordering food.
My signature drink lol.
Chips on Norfolk are the best!
We hopped on over to another bar later along with the entire island lol. We stayed till something like midnight and wished everybody Merry Christmas twice (once on NZ time and once on island time) before heading home. We walked all the way back and it was much further than anticipated but a great walk home. On the way we lost two of us... they went to the after after party.
I didn't do anything on the final day other than get ready and lounge around watching TV.
Look at the size of that papaya omg!
And that's the end of my little getaway!
